Music: The Cranberries “Dreams” This is another sculpture where I was experimenting with the concepts of extra or hidden dimensions that theoretical physics predicts exist beyond the provable four of our own. You can read more about the origin of the ideas behind these works in my earlier posts on Instagram or on my website: gregorybarrett.com I call this piece “Accordion Girl,” where the frontal image is folded into the space of a specific geometric shape. My model was Kylee, a student of mine and the daughter of a woman I taught with (who, like her daughter, was also really nice). In this work the added or extra dimensions are hidden in the frontal view; and only become discovered as the observer or viewer moves about the piece. My original desire to create these works stemmed from my desire to comprehend the nature of extra dimensions within, or outside of, our own reality and my dissatisfaction with the explanations given by the physicists and mathematicians from which I read.
